India's Kryptos are back with their fourth album Burn Up the Night which follows The Coils of Apollyon, a record well liked here at The Metal Crypt. The style of Traditional, Iron Maiden-inspired riffs and melodies with extreme vocals remains constant though the singer seems to be going for a blacker vibe, not unlike Desaster or any of the Black/Thrash bands littering the scene in 2016. The Thrash vibe found on Coils... is almost undetectable this time and the twin-guitar interplay has been ramped up. None of the solos really jumped out at me, as they did on Coils..., and none of the songs does much to distinguish itself and I guess that's the knock on Burn Up the Night. It is fun while it is on but ultimately kind of dull and forgettable. I was really hoping for something vicious and what I got was a nondescript Black Metal vocalist singing for an Iron Maiden facsimile. It isn't a bad album but I was expecting more.
