Subetroth appears to be some kind of intentional mangling of "sabertooth", and along with the artwork made me expect this to be sludge. And, well, it is a bit sludgy, but overall presents more as Doom. Riffs and heaviness are obviously the focus here, and they are sabbathy and super-heavy as would be expected. The vocals here are kind of a mess, as they veer between a dry howl, an awful rasp, and some clean vocals dragged through a shit ton of effects. I think this band would sound miles better if they would shut up, as the riffs are fun and groovy, but the vocals keep going and going and they are not any kind of good. This isn't horrible, but it's not what I would call worthwhile. |
