Ancient Empire's Other World is a balls-to-the-wall slab of early Iron Maiden worship with a slice of early Metallica laid on top. Galloping bass, big riffs, tight twin-guitars and sing-along choruses infiltrate every track. The vocals are solid and the drum rolls are right out of Nicko McBrain's bag of tricks. Other World is a concept album with a story of mankind abandoning Earth and struggling to find a new home. I could go on describing the Murray/Smith solos on "Dark Before the Dawn" or the Metallica-inspired Thrash riff opening "Embrace the Horror" but you really need to experience them for yourself. This is quality "traditional" Heavy Metal and the Hypertrace-era Scanner/sci-fi lyrics give Ancient Empire just enough of a unique flavor. Recommended. |
