Event Horizon is a 2-song single from Denmark's Savage Machine, a band I reviewed before (2014's Through the Iron Forest) but honestly forgot about until I went back and looked. 1000+ reviews will do that, I guess. I likened their debut EP to less well-known bands of the 80s but I have to say this new release is much more direct and quite frankly bowled me over from the opening riff of "Event Horizon" and continued through the end of "Savior." Power and Traditional Metal are woven together smoothly on both songs which feature sing-along choruses like those on Timeless Miracle's Into the Enchanted Chamber, double-kick drums from Riot's Thundersteel and twin-guitar and bass work from the mighty Maiden. The only questionable moment is on "Savior" when singer Troels Rasmussen goes off on a spoken-word rant for a bit. Other than that, though, these two songs kill. If Savage Machine has an album's worth of songs like "Event Horizon" and "Savior" you're gonna be looking at one happy Metal fan.
