Spanish Speed Metal merchants Soldier are a very refreshing and interesting bunch. Soldier was formed over 10 years ago and since then they have recorded a couple of high-quality and enjoyable albums, of which their latest output, titledĀ The Great Western Oligarchy, was released in April 2015. Musically they actually remind me of their country mates Angelus Apatrida, but with a way more rocking, Speed Metal approach compared to the Albacete-based thrashers. Soldier use a lot of rocking tempos within their songs, making them sound more like an entertaining party band, which I like very much. A song like "Pilgrims" has a tiny Pantera vibe (when talking about Pantera's more mellow moments), while the cover of Type O Negative's "Black No. 1" gives the song a whole new dimension. Overall, Soldier's nicely rockin' and semi-aggressive Speed Metal puts a smile on my face due to its somewhat relaxed approach, making it sound like a band that makes you loaded with all those positive energy levels. They are absolutely worth checking out. |
