This is a welcome re-release of SIG:AR:TYR's debut from 2005 on Hammerheart records. SIG:AR:TYR walk happily in the long shadow cast by Bathory. The music here is expansive, melodic, often acoustic and soothing. This band carries you along on a tide of atmosphere and sweeping riffs. Vocals are a muted rasp or hollow-sounding intonation. The songs cannot really be separated out, and the album presents a unified and expressive whole. If you want blasty Viking Metal, then this will not be your thing, but if you like mid-period Bathory or other epic bands like Falkenbach or Blut Aus Nord, then you will like this.
