Brutal... uh, I would say. This band is Gangrena from Chile, playing brutal, grinding and pretty devastating Death Metal, with a modern approach and heavy hands.
On their third, self-titled, album, these Chilean brutalizers use their own native language, Spanish, to deliver 13 tracks of their death messages to the masses. I don't find this disturbing, because when you use those deep death grunts, it really does not matter which language you use for gurgling vomit out of your throat, does it?
This is heavily US-tinged, strongly blast-beat-ridden Death Metal (somehow it's both Six Feet Under's and Deicide's names that seem to pop up in my mind more than any other band names), with some light Thrash Metal riffs being wrapped around it. It's all pretty convincingly – and tightly – played stuff, but unfortunately the stuff herein starts to become a bit faceless and tedious way too soon. The problem for Gangrena is that none of the songs have the needed originality and uniqueness in them to stand above the other songs, so the whole record basically represents run-of-the-mill type of Death Metal – and that's about it, I am afraid.
Only invest into this record if you can find it cheap, or you are a serious, die-hard Death Metal collector and have still some space left in your bookshelf. Or wait...
