Following closely on the heels of last years success with the absolute ass kicker of an album entitled "Mondo Medicale" Impaled return with an ass kicker of an EP entitled "Medical Waste". I was one of the many that thoroughly enjoyed the death/thrash beating handed out on their last album and was eagerly anticipating anything new on the horizon for this band. Well the wait wasn’t to long and although we don’t have a full-length album here this EP is still pretty damn cool.

The album features two new tracks "Choice Cuts" and "Gross Anatomy" as well as two cover songs, "The Hearse" from the punk band Deadbolt and oddly enough a Nirvana track entitled "Tourettes". There are also two live tracks for the songs "Until Death" and "Back to the Grave". One of the coolest features however is the video track for the song "Operating Theatre" off of their last album. Now for those of you that are not familiar with this band just imagine Cannibal Corpse with a lot more variety and an overall thrash feel to the music. I still think that one of the main things I like about this band though is they actually have a sense of humor. The imagery in their lyrics is quite gory and graphic but it seems to be more tongue in cheek than it does anything else. Every interview I have ever read with these guys really shows their sense of humor and I think metal music in general could use more of this. Anytime a band has their press release stating that the band is currently dividing their time between golf and macramé you know these guys like to have fun.

Overall I would say this is nothing that you can’t live without but for fans of the band this is certainly a welcomed addition while waiting for the new album. Recommended.
