Light of Dawn is the second full-length from Power Metal super group Unisonic. With names like Michael Kiske, Kai Hansen and Dennis Ward peppering the band's lineup, the sound should be easy enough for even the casual Metal fan to divine but, if you've been living under a rock somewhere, let me elaborate. Draw a triangle and at the first point put Helloween's Keeper of the Seven Keys, Pt. 1, the second, Silent Force's Walk the Earth and the third, Edguy's Theater of Salvation. Then plop a point anywhere in the middle and you'll have Light of Dawn. There are majestic anthems like "Find Shelter" and "Exceptional," syrupy ballads like "You and I" and "When the Deed is Done" and double-kick rockers like "For the Kingdom" and "Your Time Has Come," essentially covering the entire spectrum of melodic Power Metal. The fingerprints of Kiske are all over this and the echoes of the songs he wrote for those Keeper albums can be heard throughout Light of Dawn. The guitar work of Hansen and ex-Krokus guitarist Mandy Meyer is excellent and bassist Ward and drummer Kosta Zafiriou provide a solid foundation. Many of the choruses, especially those on songs like "Exceptional" and "For the Kingdom," are going to stick in your brain like they've been nailed there. The songwriting is quite good, though not what I would call inventive, and some of the tracks are a bit pedestrian (to wit; "Manhunter). At the end of the day, these Power Metal veterans have released a winner with Light of Dawn, one all Melodic/Power Metal fans should add to their collections without hesitation.
