This Belgian 4-piece act, Powerstroke, doesn't try to sound like the radio-friendly heroes from Denmark, Volbeat, and for that reason they will never become as popular as those Danish maestros. They are too heavy and hardcore to be kissing the mainstream's big butt, but that's a good thing, I would say.
Think of Pro-pain with a more Thrash Metal and Hardcore approach but having approximately the same amount of groove and heaviness, and you'll get an idea what Powerstroke sound like. A song like "Kickback" offers exactly what the song title suggests; a merciless kickback right to your forehead while "Just Sayin'" invites you to join a huge raging and rolling moshpit for some good and violent fun. "Thoughlove" is a heavy Thrash Metal song with some mandatory, old-fashioned gang shouts and a very catchy chorus that urges you to join the riot in the name of Thrash Metal. Did my spontaneous headbanging while I was listening to this track get approved by the band as a one-man riot? I hope so.
In for a Penny, in for a Pound, Powerstroke's third album, is a welcome breath of fresh air among today's countless Metal releases. I am sure they deliver in live situations, too. By all means, check them out if you are a fan of Thrash, Hardcore, groove and overall good musicianship. It is all here in one package.
