Italian Death/Thrash act Grind Zero, formed in 2011, is one of those new bands that easily slip under our radar, simply because they offer nothing to impress either you or me. I wouldn't say something like that without giving them a fair chance to prove me wrong but, after a couple of careful listens, I just don't get any type of musical pleasure from their music. Ground Zero's recycled, groovy and grinding riffs sound dull, tedious and don't go anywhere. Plus, vocalist Marco doesn't seem able to decide whether he should growl or try to imitate some Thrash vocalists. Either way, he just does not deliver. There are a few moments here and there that sort of mimic At The Gates' riffs, like the song "Extra Life Disease" (no, not "Terminal Spirit Disease") but unfortunately that's where the good moment starts and ends. Ground Zero's label, Denmark's Mighty Music, has hyped this release quite a bit in the promotional press kit and it's sad this album doesn't live up to the expectations. What a pity. |
