Here's another entry into the old school, NWOBHM revival movement, this time from New York's denim and leather warriors Lightning Lord. The band's debut EP (really a two-song cassette/CD) has all the charm of the self-produced, practice space-recorded tapes we used to trade in the days before the Internet and, based on the songs, would definitely qualify as a "find." The mix is muddy, but that's hardly surprising and really doesn't hamper the songs much as Lightning Lord are clearly just letting it rip from the double kicks to the frantic riffing to the high-pitched, and quite good, vocals. I'd be lying if I said this was original but this kind of early Power Metal is always welcome in my playlist. Take the speedy delivery of Thundersteel-era Riot, the vocals from Witch Cross' Fit for Fight and add the promise of the first White Wizzard release and you'll start to have an idea of what Lightning Lord aspire to. They will need to sharpen their songwriting skills, as "Hellas Waiting Arms" and "Children of the Night" are fun songs, but rather generic. Lightning Lord has only been in existence for a couple of years but I hear enough on All Father Death Stalkers to keep me listening, with hopeful ears, for their next release.
