Every now a then a band hits on a formula that works time and again, as long as the quality of the songwriting is high. Such is the case with long-running German Thrash band Destruction and their 2013 release Spiritual Genocide. Simple, crushing riffs, double-kick drums and socio-political lyrics barked out by front man Schmier are what we've come to expect from this band and, once again, they deliver. Sure, you've heard the band take their instruments through these paces before but that makes songs like "To Dust You Will Decay" and the title track no less catchy or worthy of a fist in the air. There are no weak tracks, though the chorus on "Legacy of the Past" is forced. But it is still fun to pick out the influential song and album titles woven into the lyrics. Don't over think what Destruction is doing on Spiritual Genocide. Put your head down and dive into the pit.
