It's always nice to hear some good death metal, especially a new release from a new band, and Warclouds deliver just that. A Disturbing Presence is a cool stab at the genre with some really catchy and memorable riffs that truly deliver (though slightly groovy in places), as well some quality low growls and a cool rhythm section. The riffs really do stand out here, as each track boasts at least one truly pummeling part and there are some really inventive melodic riffs that sound heroic rather than saccharine. What I really like about Warclouds is that there just isn't any bullshit or pretentions around this release, they don't try and shove technicality down your throat or attempt to gross you out with third-rate gore lyrics, instead opting to let the music do the talking which is just fine in my book. Overall if you want some solid, reliable death metal you could do far worse than check out A Disturbing Presence. Without a doubt a promising debut, I'll be interested to hear what these guys do next. |
