Well, this is more like it. The EP Gloria Nox Aeterna was alright but could get monotonous quick. This album sees Patria doing more with their sound – slightly less melancholic, with more melody (without compromising the basic rawness of their sound), more intricate songs and a fuller sound make this a more interesting, diversified listen. Ultimately this is Patria being Patria, just with a slight twist – enough to gather new interest without alienating their fan base. It's raw, it's old school, it's not pretty and hardly original, but I can keep this sucker playing several times in a row without getting tired of it, so that has to be a good sign. ;) |
