This band just plays solid second-wave Black Metal of the old Scandinavian school, imitating such former greats as Mayhem and Satyricon and doing it damned well. They have a much more melodic than raw approach, and thus they remind me a bit of Nehemah without the epic stylings. You get melodic tremolo riffs, a nicely cold and atmospheric recording job, and solid vocals. There's nothing that really stands out as awesome about this, as it is pretty firmly derivative. But while this is firmly imitative of former greats, it is imitation done with sincerity and respect, and that makes all the difference in the world. |
