This is some excellent pagan/black metal that has a lot in touch with the second wave Norwegian bands, shades of Burzum, Darkthrone and even Gehenna spring to mind when listening to Galdr's self-titled debut. The riffs are powerful and genuine, with some atmospheric keyboards saturated over the most opportune moments, bringing to mind early Blut Aus Nord. Little needs to be said about Galdr's debut, the vocals are quality shrieks that sound painful, yet the right kind of painful – if you get my drift. The production is ideal, and the atmosphere is compelling. I have no problem recommending this to any level-headed black metal fan, some of the finest of its style that I've heard recently. |
