This zine comes to us from Bulgaria. It is a glossy zine and this issue even includes a number of colour pages. It also includes a sampler CD, not your usual Metal Blade or Earache sampler, but a sampler produced by the zine editor - no cheap stuff here! :) Brutallica focuses on Death and Black metal, with some coverage of Thrash (eg. interview with Holy Moses). The bulk of the magazine is interviews, but there are a lot of reviews as well (the cover claims more than 400 - I didn't feel like counting them so I'll take their word for it! :)) The layout is very professional, they even have their own printing service (advertised in the zine), which was used for printing Slayer Magazine #17 with good results. The reviews are written by many people and as a result vary greatly in length and style, as well as in the quality of the English (nothing to lose sleep over). The interviews vary from a half page to multiple pages in length and are generally very interesting. Bands interviewed are: Finntroll, Forefather, Carnival in Coal, VII Arcano, Circle of Dead Children, Khold, Holy Moses, Ancient Gods, Thromdarr, Abaddon Incarnate, Mortician, Disinfect, Sceptic, Rising Moon, Gorerotted, Dark Funeral, Nile, Six Feet Under, Bolt Thrower, The Chasm, Murder Squad, Cannibal Corpse, Active Minds, Fleshtized, Urgehal and Fleshless - all with photos (B&W or colour, depending on the page). At US$5, this is clearly a good deal, and this zine has nothing to envy commercial publications. Only downside is that mail from Bulgaria seems to be a bit slow (at least it was in my case.) You can order using Paypal, but e-mail for availability first. Additional Information Phone: +359 64 340 09 |
