Review

Impaled is a band that has garnered quite a bit of praise after their debut album "The Dead shall Dead Remain" and their subsequent tour of the US supporting acts like Nile and Vader in the last couple of years. Trying to capitalize on this praise and success they are back with the follow up album "Mondo Medicale". If this album is any indication of what to expect in the future for this band it will not be a long journey before they have a few supporting acts following them on a tour.

This is being hyped as "Gore Metal" but with all the genres and sub genres out there I really donít think we need to add even more. I will simply call this what it sounds like to me and that is an almost perfect mix of death and thrash metal. It has the speed elements and technicality of death metal but with the added benefit of thrash style breakdown sections that make you clench your fists and grit your teeth. This is absolutely perfect pit style music :). The musicianship is excellent with some riffs that can make your neck snap from excessive head banging as well as some killer leads. The vocals range from a heavy dark growl to a more traditional pissed off scream. Add all this together with an absolute masterful job of production and you have a kick ass album. The only complaint I had about the debut was simply the lack of variety, which has certainly been changed on this album. Going from a sonic blast beat fest to this almost seems like two different bands and if they can make this jump in quality from one album to the next this certainly is a damn good sign for the future.

Overall a kick ass death/thrash metal hybrid that any fan of either of the genres will certainly want to add to the collection. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
