Vanmakt are just not as good a band as they wish they were. I found their debut Vredskapta Morkersagor to be a pretty faceless blur of blastbeats and shrieking, and this album is no different. One song at a time this is better, as Vanmakt are heavy and feral, and they do inject some good melodies into their assault. But after three songs the abuse of the blast becomes harder and harder to put up with, and this is more like an album with the same song recorded over and over again, as the constant machine-gun drumming and the samey-sounding arpeggio riffs make the songs pretty much indistinguishable. If you like aggressive, high-speed Black Metal then you won't hate this, but it's nothing you haven't heard before. |
