It is not always that you come across a writer who's enthusiasm and knowledge you can feel just by reading his words. Dale Roy, editor of Canadian Assault is one such writer. From the short editorial to the sneaky comments he sometimes inserts in interviews, you can see that this guy lives for metal. Hails! End sucking up. ;) The most recent issue of Canadian Assault come in half-size format and yet is filled with enough content to keep you busy for a while. Lengthy and entertaining interviews, *lots* of reviews where Dale does not hesitate to speak his mind (or his disgust - see his review of Mayhem-Grand Declaration of War :)), a killer quotes page with memorable quotes from various metal artists, some Canadian jokes and, helloooo, a couple of interviews with porn stars! :) Let's not forget a killer "Fanzine contacts" page.

Dale's interviews are anything but boring and mostly feature underground bands, so you don't end up reading the same stuff you've already read in more popular newsstand magazines - that's one thing I like in underground zines, the original content. Bands featured include Denial of God, Dekapitator, Necrodeath, Disgorge, Destruktor, and a couple more. Hell, I almost forgot to mention vinyl and ancient albums reviews, and a small section of horror movies reviews. Definitely a lot for what is called a half-sized format!

The only negative comment I have about this issue is the font used in the Dekapitator interview which is a little difficult to read - but the interview is well worth the read, just like the rest of this great zine. Guys like Dale keep the metal underground alive. Do yourself a favor and order whatever back issues he has left - it won't cost you much and every issue is worth the read.
