After last year's excellent The House of Atreus - Act I, my expectations were high for this second act. Deception? A little. This new album, which comes on 2 CDs, is not as heavy as the first act, and does tend to be a little repetitive, something that I always have a hard time dealing with. It's true that this is one hell of an undertaking, The House of Atreus spreading over 3 CDs, so at some point there had to be some downsides. Well, let's put the negative aside. This album is a must-have for those who have Act I, since it is the continuation of the story. While the album does have its shortcomings compared to its predecessor, it is quite an enjoyable listen and despite some of the occasional repetitiveness mentionned earlier, their is quite a bit of variety in sound throughout this 89 minutes CD. I recommend you first get Act I though, otherwise this sequel won't make as much sense (duh!) In short, this is the Virgin Steele sound with a little lack of inspiration at times. Still better than tons of releases out there. Recommended.
