Godless Rising is a band composed of former Vital Remains members from all the way back on their first album, "Let Us Pray." Godless Rising's sound, in turn, basically sounds very similar to "Let Us Pray"-era Vital Remains. It's a slower and more mid-paced Death Metal with some serious head banging riffs. "Rising Hatred", the band's debut, is pretty straightforward Death Metal with some awesome riffing and vocals that are decipherable if you try hard enough. The real problem here is the album's length. It's very short at only 25:03 of original songs. The bonus tracks on my reissue are very stupid re-recorded songs. It's stupid since it has only been a year since the songs were originally released and they sound exactly the same. The original content here is more of an EP length. I don't have a problem with shorter albums if they are some of the fastest and most furious riffs like the case is with "Legion" and "Litany", but this album is more mid-paced focusing on the riffs. The album however has some excellent riffing and good vocals. I haven't had a chance to check out the band's newest album, "Battle Lords', but hopefully it can equal the quality of "Rising Hatred" and have much more material. Recommended for fans of Death Metal.
