ShadowKeep is a progressive power metal band formed in England in March 1999. This 6-track mini-album is their first release.
I am pretty impressed by the material, considering that the band hasn't been together for a year. I'm a not as much a fan of progressive metal as I am of power metal, but ShadowKeep's style is an excellent blend of the two genres, and most metal fans will find something they like in this album. Melodic vocals, power riffs, great drum work (heck, I'm following the drum's beat as I type these lines :)), and the technique associated with progressive metal are all there, resulting in an excellent variety of material from beginning to end. The more I listen to it, the more I like it.
This band has nothing to envy the bigger, signed bands. The vocals and musicianship are excellent, and the production quality is commercial-level. I highly recommend this album if you like the genre. You can get a sample by clicking on the MP3.COM link below.
This is an excellent debut for this young band, and I'm looking forward to hearing their full-length album. The band is also featured on an upcoming Queensrÿche tribute album.
The CD is a MP3.COM D.A.M. CD which contains the audio tracks as well as all the songs in mp3 format, and a decent mp3 player which can also display some band information as well as the lyrics. Once you've ordered the CD, you can listen to it online on mp3.com. Note: With the release of Corruption Within, this CD is no longer available. All track from this CD are included on the full-length.
