It didn't take long for ShadowKeep to get a record deal, after last year's release of their 6-track mini-album. While I was pretty much enthusiastic about their first release, this full-length album has some downsides. with some songs that don't feel like they were quite ready to be released, not being up to par with the material from their first release. Could be pressure from the label (?) Now don't get me wrong here, this is a very good album, much better than a lot of other stuff I purchased this year. Vocalist Rogue M is often compared to Geoff Tate and Midnight. His high-pitch voice is one of the things that set this band apart, although in some songs I would have preferred to have seen more emphasis on the instrument, which are almost buried by the vocals. It did take a bit of getting used to. A bonus cover of Queensrÿche's "Queen Of The Reich" is included.
Overall, a very good, powerful metal album, which, while not perfect, will surely get a lot of listens from fans of the genre. ShadowKeep is definitely a band worth looking into.
- Includes one bonus track
