It seems like a lot of band are following the cover album trend. The aptly named Coverkill is Overkill's offering from late last year, a few months after the release of the excellent Necroshine album.

The album starts with - surprise -, Motörhead's Overkill.  Well, I have yet to see a band outperform Motörhead on their own material.  Overkill's version is alright, but I'll stick with the more powerful original.  The only other song that I find noticeable on the album is Black Sabbath's Changes.  The very Ozzy-like vocals on this one are amazing considering Blitz's usual vocal style.  You have to hear it to believe it.  This is my opinion is the song that shines on the album, which overall is quite ordinary, but pretty well executed with no real "downers" to be found, so you'll want to listen to it quite a few times.

I'd say this is a must-have for Overkill fans, but if you are new to the band, go for a studio album.  I've always considered cover albums to be a band's way to have fun, let off some steam, and make the fans wait for the next studio album.
