Here we have it – Sodom's weakest record to date. Let me get this out of the way first - I find this album less appealing than any other Sodom release, but this is a fairly strong effort nevertheless. It's just really not what I had expected. Now bear with me if you will, as I tell you what I have a problem with…

The bulk of this album is mid-tempo, heavy, noisy, and muddy, with strong emphasis on vocals (shouted vocals) and not enough riffs or solos. A few such tracks on every Sodom album is the norm, but on the whole, we've come to expect maniacal speed, insane chops, riffs and SOLOS in this band. Not to mention an eerie coolness in the vocals department. We don't quite get any of that here. The THRASH seems to have taken a backseat on this album and the traditional metal influences have come to the fore. If you listened to Tom Angelripper's solo efforts, you would notice a striking resemblance between that and this album here (minus of course, all the songs about beer). Heck, without Tom's vocals, I wouldn't even guess this is a thrash band, let alone pick out Sodom. And damn… we can't even see their mascot – the soldier. Come on guys… where's that mask on the cover?

Now all this criticism is coming from someone that enjoys every single album/EP ever released by the band. And by no means am I suggesting that this album is bad. I'd take this over the majority of stuff out there any day. It's just that this was the first time that a Sodom record was actually disappointing. Ignoring the moniker on the front however, the songs here are definitely worth listening to, but not quite essential.
