It seems Sweden is once again reclaiming its throne as one of the most reknowned producers of intense blackened metal, and it also seems Sigrblot are one of the bands at the forefront of this rejuvenation. Four years in the making, this album is a true work of art. Combining hyperspeed tremolo riffing with various folk influences and occasional movie samples, as well as a unique ideology derived from the great White thinkers of the 20th century, Sigrblot's particular brand of (roughly defined) NS black metal (a convenient tag only, since the band is neither political nor strictly confined to the sonic boundaries of black metal) storms forth like the unleashed rage of an infuriated berserker. This isn't complete chaos though, far from it - the music is a tightly-knit tapestry of harmonic brilliance within a framework of intense power.

Quick comparisons could be made to fellow Swedish stormtroopers Watain, although Sigrblot's musical structures are often far more dissonant and less linear. The riffs have an atonal quality which, despite the unusual melodic composition, still have the ability to lock into your subconscious and provide an innate catchiness. An undercurrent of RAC-styled rock sensibility seems to have crept its way into their sound, an element driven home by the inclusion of a cover version of Aussie veterans Fortress in "Commie Scum", which rounds out the album (although it's followed by an additional outro after a short lapse of silence).

Ideologically, Sigrblot stands out like a swollen middle-finger raised in the direction of the ZOG. Rather than simply screaming hateful obscenity, they've instead latched onto the writings of several reknowned National Socialist philosophers, channelling the essence of their work through lyrics which seem more like essays than the usual disjointed, broken sentences often employed for ease of consumption. Only 4 songs are in English, the rest being in their native language, but all the lyrics convey the same message: the White race is doomed to extinction unless we get our shit together and stop behaving like simpering cattle in the face of those we once ruled over. Seamlessly constructed and eloquently written, these lyrics are one of the defining factors in what makes this disc both unique and great. It's highly recommended to any fan of fast, intense melodic black metal, as well as those who still claim that most Aryan-themed metal is merely ramshackle bedroom-recorded Darkthrone cloning.
