Third album since France's return among the living dead, For Those Who Stay is very much in the vein of 2019's The Veil of Darkness and 2021's Traditio Satanae. Brutal yet melodic black metal is what Gorgon do best, and there's plenty of that here. The delivery is savage, with the rage-filled shouted raspy vocals front and centre and terrorizing the neighbourhood with unrelenting hate, to great effect. The music is very much in the second-wave style, with the French melodic flair added as a bonus. That doesn't water things down at all, but rather make the music more headbangable or, you know, makes you want to slam through walls until you can't move anymore. There's no shortage of bands operating in this style, but Gorgon have a little something in their recipe that puts them above most of them. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
