Review

This is the fifth album from Ironflame, longtime solo project of multi-instrumentalist Andrew D'Cagna. I expected his solo output to slow down once he joined Icarus Witch as their full-time vocalist, but that seems not to have happened, as this is his third album in 6 years with no signs of slowing down. In fact, this is far and away his best work yet.

Always starting with a base of classic Heavy Metal—Maiden, Priest, Helstar, Destiny's End—Ironflame have previously produced albums that are solid but not remarkable, but this one definitely has an edge in songwriting over previous works. The songs are just better, with more memorable hooks, sharper vocal melodies, and heavy, hooky riffs. In the past I enjoyed Ironflame albums while they are on, but could rarely remember much about them after, but this one has a lot more staying power.
