Slave to the Scythe is the second album from Demiser, a black/thrash band out of California. They play a familiar combination of thrashy speed, raspy singing and melodic riffing with perhaps some sharper, catchier songwriting than many of their peers. Cuts like "Carbureted Speed" and "Hell is Full of Fire" feature hooks that are hard to shake off after hearing these songs just a time or two, so Slave to the Scythe has that elusive "memorable" factor that is often missing from a lot of releases in this subgenre. Demiser aren't doing anything radically different from their peers, but they do what they do well enough to take Slave to the Scythe a few notches above the competition. It's another quality purchase for fans of Bewitcher, Wraith, BAT and the like. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
