Gravebound is the debut album from Finland's Bloodcross a black metal band that adds a lot of thrashy melody to their brew. The songwriting is quite accomplished, not sparing hellish rasping vocals or blasting drums while incorporating cutting thrash riffing and less violent breaks that all help make Gravebound an album you can sit and listen to vs. an unrelenting onslaught of black metal violence that can sometimes go by in a blur (not that that kind of music doesn't have its place in the metal spectrum). To my ears, the songs on Gravebound have elements of Immortal mixed with Bewitcher and, though I wouldn't say Bloodcross sounds like either of those bands in more than a passing way, Gravebound is a strong debut from this Finnish band.
