With a name like Brothers of Metal, one would expect music that's all full-blown, over-the-top heavy metal anthems, but this is not quite it. This power metal band reminds me quite a bit of Rhapsody (of Fire, whatever) at times, though they're not as bombastic. There's a lot of that epic songwriting going on here, with topics covering Norse mythology and a little metal as well. It's kind of mellow as far as metal albums go, with several songs or passages that don't quite qualify, so this is not an album you'll want to put on if you want start-to-finish headbang-your-head-off insanity, but it does have its moments. There are female and male vocals, but mostly female, and her vocals are very melodic yet powerful enough when the songs call for it. She's a bit on the rock side in style and sometimes remind me of Doro. The vocals are not particularly up front in the mix, but I found myself focusing on them more than the music many times when listening to the album; she just has the kind of voice that draws you in. I can't say the same of the male vocals, but the mix of both is very well done and it actually works here, unlike in some bands that shall remain nameless. So, this is much more mellow than I expected, and it took me a couple of listens to start liking it, but it's very well executed melodic power metal with an epic vibe, some symphonic elements, and top-notch vocals. Good stuff.
