It's been over 14 years since I reviewed Blasphemous' second album, Bearer of the Darkest Plague. Time flies. For the record, this is the Blasphemous from Philadelphia—there are quite a few bands bearing that name. This is more of a death/black metal hybrid, not as raw as I remembered with a more polished production that doesn't take anything away from the band's aggression and brutality, though the guys threw in a few slightly melodic bits to round the corners here and there. This is mostly fast-paced, a good mix of second-wave blasting black metal and post-2000 speedy death metal that feels like you're being running over by a bullet train. Anyone who's heard more than a few albums in the genre won't find anything new here, but it's a good listen and, at just under 30 minutes, it doesn't outstay its welcome and gets the adrenaline pumping.
