This is the second album of dense, atmospheric Black Metal from this Greek band. Rather than the usual Rotting Christ comparisons, I hear more similarities to other epic styled bands like Uada or Mgla, with the big, rolling riffs and expanded arrangements. About half of these songs are over the ten-minute mark, and while I don't think they all needed to be that long, the very excessive nature of the song and album length are clearly part of the experience. This is meant to be epic on all levels, and while it is ambitious, it can't manage to hold your attention for the whole running time. This is still a good album, but the band clearly bit off more than they could really chew. |
