Almost every album I get from India is some kind of brutal death metal or more or less extreme, so getting some '80-style straightforward heavy metal came as a surprise, and a good one at that. Against Evil sound like lots of early to mid-80s American heavy metal bands and I wouldn't argue with you if you told me this album had been recorded back then. All the elements are there: catchy, melodic, accessible enough yet packing a punch, riffs and solos that make you want to grab the air guitar, slightly rough, clean vocals that call for a sing-along, the works. There are some more syrupy parts that kind of make me go "meh" without actually being bad, so it's not like I ever felt the need to skip a track. Give 'em Hell is a strong entry in the traditional heavy metal revival trend—is we want to call it that—and you can stack it against most albums in the genre. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
