Razor Wire is the debut album from Austin, Texas' Mean Mistreater, a band that plays down-and-dirty, rocking heavy metal. "Album" might be generous as Razor Wire clocks in at just 27 minutes but that doesn't take away from the high energy, melodic music that packs this release from front to back. Gruff female vocals, a bit of Iron Maiden here, a bit of Motörhead there, some punk attitude and even a few occult vibes on the closer, "Bedevil," which makes me think of what Jess and the Ancient Ones might sound like if they played straight up metal. Other than the last track, not many individual songs on Razor Wire have stuck with me but since they are all good, I don't really mind, I just hope they can take their songwriting up a notch or two for the next release. If you are following bands like Tower, Midnight Dice, Sölicitör and that crowd, Mean Mistreater is a band to add to your playlist. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
