After the high point of Crogacht, Suidakra spent some time in a bit of a slump, creating increasingly slow, less metallic albums long on atmospherics like Realms of Odoric and Cimbric Yarns. Then they did the crowdfunded re-recording of old classics with Echoes of Yore, and it seems to have given them a kick in the pants, because their next album afterward was the much-improved Wolfbite, and now we get another strong entry in their catalog.

What this band is always best at is sharp, melodic metal with razor-sharp, folk-fueled riffs and epic songwriting, and this album sees them doing that really well. The production is excellent, the playing is tight and clean, and the songwriting has a lot of twists and turns to keep pace with the shifting time signatures and vocal styles. This has always been a band with a great feel for melodies, but now they are back in the groove where they don't forget this is supposed to be a metal album. My only possible caveat is that the songs are maybe not as cohesive as they could be, and there is nothing here that makes as coherent a statement as "Revenant" or "Shattering Swords". Still, this is a great band getting back to what they are good at, and if you remember their great works you won't want to miss this.
