This is the debut by a band made up of a bunch of guys who are also in Doom bands like The Skull, St Vitus, and Pentagram, so the pedigree of this is not in doubt, and the influences are not hard to hear. This is thankfully much more in the St Vitus vein than Trouble—who I have always found overrated. This is very trad US Doom that manages to be retro without even sounding a little bit like Black Sabbath, which is quite an accomplishment, if you ask me. The guitar sound is warm and analog sounding, though I do wish it had a bit more oomph. The vocals are solid but not amazing. I would say that's a good judgment of the whole album, as it is enjoyable, but it's not going to blow you away. |
