Kanonenfieber's second album translates to "primal catastrophe" and is dedicated to the victims of the First World War. This is black/death metal with a rather depressing and dark atmosphere, not surprising given the lyrical subject. It's all sung in German, but the music and atmosphere do the talking if you don't understand the language. Ominous, epic, apocalyptic; listening to this, you can't help but feel the pain of the ravages of war on your shoulder, that's just how well the band conveys the subject matter throughout the album. It's depressingly melodic, a work of doom and gloom, alternating between laidback songs and more in-your-face, faster numbers that are more in line with what you'd expect from the genre. Die Unkatastrophe is a powerful album filled with emotions that kind of takes a toll on the listener. A lot of bands write albums about war, but few leave you with this feeling of dread and helplessness. |
