These maniacs in Obscene are back with another slab of furious blazing death metal. Much of what I said about ...from Dead Horizon to Dead Horizon still stands here, the band sticking to their formula without sounding stale. The vocals are insanely out of this world, some kind of gargly, raspy growl that could give people nightmares (and good luck making out the lyrics), and they're often made even more effective with some rapid-fire blasting passages where you're guaranteed your head will fly off if you try to headbang to the stuff. I like how the music here is busy; there's a hell of a lot going on and the album really benefits from multiple listens to peel off all of its layers. Some parts are slower, almost doomy, and despite the contrast the songs fit very well with the much faster material on offer. Not part of the old-school death metal revival trend, Obscene are full-speed-ahead post-2000 insane death metal, and they're fucking good at it.
