On their debut album, Destiny Calling, Knightfall play a style of power metal so European I would have bet money they were from Italy or Finland and not Kentucky, of all places. The band is the brainchild of keyboardist Keith Dombrowski and he's gathered a fine collection of relatively unknown but talented female vocalists for the album including Dee Wolf, Jessica Mercy, Stefani Keogh, and Susy Eskarlett. The album opens strong with the cracking "Warcries," a song with a crunchy, driving riff and spirit-lifting chorus, and the beautifully melodic "Remember My Name," a simply enchanting song. There are more quality songs on Destiny Calling, such as "Raise Your Fist" and "Starfall," but the songwriting starts to drop off as the album progresses, becoming less catchy and more accessible, almost poppy, culminating with a cover of Pat Benetar's "Invincible." Overall, Destiny Calling is a good first effort from Knightfall, flashing some real promise, so fans of Ancient Bards, Seven Kingdoms, and even Nightwish should be checking it out.
