Montreal's Ossuaire play a rather depressing brand of black metal on Triumvirat. Mostly slow paced, the music is melancholic and atmospheric, and while it has a bit of an epic feel, it really comes off sounding almost post-apocalyptic with no hope for the future; the atmosphere is crushing and this thing really brought me down with every listen (as if I needed help in that department—ah!) It's raw and cold, yet somewhat beautiful. The lyrics and in French, though often indecipherable, so pretty much standard fare for the genre. This is really well executed, but it's not music that will brighten your day. |
