This is like a blast from the past as Finland's Satanic North offer here a good mix of second-wave blasting black metal mixed with the more melodic school of the mid to late-90s. One minute they're destroying everything in their past with fast, violent, raw black metal that makes it hard to decide between using your air guitar or your air drums, and the next minute they might be slowing down in a more melodic landscape. But overall this is really fast stuff and, with a good production, it's easy to appreciate everything that's going on here. The closing title track is the shortest, at 2:39 in length, but does it pack a lot of power. No doubt this triggers a massive mosh pit within two or three seconds at a live show. Satanic North is no-frills, all-guns-blazing black metal that proves you can kick ass with just the basics. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
