Arriving a year after the band's second full-length album, Pancho Ireland's Merciless Law gives us the four-song EP Grimoire for the Ultimate Sinner. Once again, it's an effort full of speedy heavy/power metal led by Ireland's untamed, Ron Keel-esque vocals and thoroughly '80s-inspired guitar work. While I appreciate the steady release schedule, I feel like the songwriting has gotten less engaging with each effort and, try as I might, I can't remember much after Grimoire for the Ultimate Sinner after it ends, though I like it well enough when it is on. I wouldn't say don't grab a copy if you like fast-paced, guitar-centric metal in the style of Loudness, Thrust, and of course, Keel, but Merciless Law has done better.
