Graven Sin is a relatively new band formed in 2021, based primarily in Finland but with a Cypriot singer, and Veil of the Gods, released through Svart Records, is their debut album. Big, booming, and doomy metal is Graven Sin's style of choice with loads of pounding drums and chugging riffs cranking out Middle Eastern-flavored melodies that back up the biblical and heroic lyrics. The atmosphere on Veil of the Gods is suitably ominous and mysterious, and it sucks you in on tracks like "As the Erinyes Emerge" and "The Scarlet Night." It is a fairly consistent album without any real standout songs but no real duds either, though "The Jackal God" is on the repetitive side. If music in the vein of Grand Magus, Argus, and even Candlemass but with an ancient Persia or Babylon vibe sounds appealing, give Veil of the Gods a spin. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
