Review

Ah, at last. Now I have the entire Skullview ouvre with the addition of this, their debut CD. This album was released six years ago, but that's the fine thing about True Metal – it never goes out of style.

I'm gonna have to say I like this one a bit better even than "Kings Of The Universe". There is not a whole lot of variation between any Skullview album and another, but here they keep the tone and momentum through the whole CD much better than on later works. The songwriting is not as catchy as on the next two albums, but in a way I like that even more, as the songs are more epic and arcane. These are all rumbling epics of Heavy Metal wizardry; from the eight-minute stomp of "The Night Of Metalkill" through the killer "Undesired Hateful Ways" and "Dreamworld Terror" right up to the last note of "Gleam of the Skull". Every tune bristles with fistfuls of cool riffs and the Dickenson/Halford wailing of mainman Quimby Lewis (again, I swear I'm not making that name up.) Quimby he may be, but he absolutely rages.

There may not be any songs as catchy as "In League With The Dragon" or "Armed With An Axe" on this one, but this is some killer shit nonetheless. All the legions anxiously await the next Skullview opus – now more than three years in the making. Here's hoping they can keep it true. But even if they can't, we still have this one. For fans of Battleroar, Doomsword, Omen, and Slough Feg, this album is another must-have. Not to be missed on pain of death.
