Out of the blue, we get this fine debut from German act Kerrigan—a side project of two guys from Funeral Doom band Lone Wanderer. But this is just sweet, catchy Heavy Metal all the way, with careening, hooky riffs and propulsive songwriting. This is just the sound of a band doing it right, from the sharp, clear production, the deft compositions, the clean-limbed guitar work, and the layered, haunting vocals. This is retro all the way, definitely recalling bands like Warlord, Medieval Steel, Black Knight, and classic Chastain among others. Every song has singable hooks, and every song has enough twists and turns that they never get dull, and just when you think you have heard everything a tune is going to do, it busts out something new. This is an album without any real filler, and you just get one good song after another. Underground gold. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
