It’s been almost 10 years since I reviewed Satanika’s Nightmare back in 2014, though it seems I’ve only missed one album since before settling in with Horde of Disgust, the band’s fifth album. Not much has changed in Satanika’s Hellhammer/Celtic Frost/Venom style black/thrash. It’s still fast, furious and evil with sawing guitars and spiteful vocals though I have to admit the songwriting is more varied than I remember from Nightmare. Cuts like "Tentacles of Horror" (what a great song title) and "The Absolute Torment" work in some slower parts that help build a little tension and don’t just try to flatten you with a wall of sound coming at you at 100 miles an hour. Nevertheless, Horde of Disgust is still a messy, chaotic experience, perhaps a bit more controlled and focused, but still capable of taking your head off if you aren’t paying attention. Nothing new here, but the energy of Satanika is undeniable so limber up those neck muscles and get ready to bang your head.
