This band was formed by a Pestilence member way back in 1988. It's labelled "progressive thrash metal," and I guess that's not too far off, though it doesn't thrash all that hard and sounds more like a heavy metal/thrash hybrid. Without it actually sounding like Anacrusis, I'm reminded a bit of that band's material here and there. To a lesser extent, I'm also reminded of the likes of early Metallica and Slayer in the more aggressive passages. The vocals are clean and typical of "clean thrash" of the era, and I'm pretty sure I can hear some Araya influence in there. I've always found that progressive thrash metal sounds weird as it's like two extremes clashing, and this is no exception, with some of it sounding overpolished and technical, and some just thrashing right off, and then, of course, there's the mix of both that can be a bit of a mindfuck sometimes. Definitely worth checking out if you like that mix and, this being a Vic Records reissue, you'll want to try to find a physical copy as, based on the press release, it seems like they put together a nice package with a booklet packed with info. |
